Fairfax Hoops Squads Finish Strong

The girls wrap up the Western League title; the boys finish fourth.

This has not been the type of season that fans of the boys basketball program have grown accustomed to. Instead of dominating the opposition as they have in years past, the Lions have played to its level.

Under head coach the team has struggled with consistency all year and that is reflected in the Lions' record: 15 wins, 10 losses and a 7-5 mark in the Western League. Still, Fairfax ended the regular season on a high Wednesday, trouncing Hamilton 68-36.

Now the question is where Fairfax will be seeded in the City Section playoffs. A committee meets Saturday morning to determine the brackets in each division.

Girls Basketball

The Lady Lions (23-8, 11-1) wrapped up Western League play with victories over Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies and Hamilton. While the boys team has stolen most of the headlines in recent years, the girls have been just as successful under head coach .

Fairfax has won or shared the last four league titles and figures to get a high seed in the playoffs. This year's team is paced by forwards (12.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game) and (9.9 points, 6.5 rebounds).

Boys Soccer

The Lions (8-12-4, 5-5-2) split their games this week, losing to Palisades 2-0 and beating LACES 4-2 on two goals and one assist by . Fairfax was fifth in the Western League and must wait to see if it is among the 32 teams in the City Section playoffs. Draws in each division will be determined Saturday. 

Girls Soccer

After being shutout by Palisades and LACES in their final two league games the Lady Lions (7-8-2, 5-5-2) finished fifth out of seven teams. They too will find out Saturday if they are chosen for the City playoffs.
