Assembly District 50 Candidate reacted to Governor Brown’s May Budget Revise, calling it a “fantasyland” budget designed to hold school funding hostage to tax hikes.
“The California Constitution requires the Governor to propose, and the Legislature to pass, a balanced budget. Governor Jerry Brown has failed in his constitutional duty by proposing a budget that relies on assumptions about the economy and the will of the voters of California,” Torgan said.
“What makes it even worse is his continuing to rely on over-generous revenue projections that fly in the face of the reality of California’s unfriendly business climate. Governor Brown’s budget holds the children of California hostage by linking $5 billion in education funding to the passage of the proposed tax increases he needs to balance the budget. Our kids, our voters and our states deserve better.”
“Perhaps you can get away with make-believe budgeting if you were governing Fantasyland, but California deserves an honest discussion of our fiscal straits and honest answers for our future. I’ve been in Sacramento, I know where our problems lie, and I want the voters of the fiftieth district to send me back to clean up this mess.”
