Latest Election Results Keep Butler, Bloom in Lead

Three Democrats continue to rake in the most votes.

As Assemblywoman Betsy Butler and Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom take a firm lead in what was considered one of the hottest state contests in the June 5 primary, Torie Osborn and the race's lone republican, West Hollywood resident Brad Torgan, continue to scrape up votes for the third place finish.

Osborn trails Butler and Bloom but is ahead of Torgan by 118 votes as of Friday, when the Los Angeles County Election's office updated its semifinal results with 1,738 new ballots counted in the 50th District. For a short period, Osborn, a political organizer from Santa Monica, , an environmental attorney from West Hollywood.

53rd Assemblywoman Butler currently has 25.93 percent of the votes, followed by Bloom with 25.46 percent. A mere .2 percentage points separate Osborn and Torgan. Under the state's new primary system, the top two vote getters head to the Nov. 6 general election, regardless of political party.

The newly carved district spans Agoura Hills to Hollywood. Fifty-two percent of registered voters are Democrats.

"I did much stronger than anyone believed," Torgan said in an email after election night.

Countywide, there are about 51,490 ballots to be counted. The next county's next official update is scheduled for Tuesday.
