Police Blotter: Stolen Bikes, Wallets and Cars

Six shoplifting incidents also make this week's crime roundup.

Plenty of cell phones, cameras and iPods are missing after thieves made off with bags and briefcases. Some bags contained more than $3,000 in personal items. Read on for more information on incidents that occurred within the past week as compiled by the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station.

Bicycle thefts

A burglar stole a $250 bike from a residential garage on the 8700 block of Dorrington Avenue on Aug. 26 at about 8 a.m.

A thief stole a $600 mountain bicycle that was locked to a street sign on the 1000 block of Fairfax Avenue on Aug. 29 at about 7:10 p.m.

Someome stole a $200 sign from the front of a business on the 8900 block of Beverly Boulevard on Aug. 31 at about 9 a.m.

A female suspect described as Caucasian was arrested on suspicion of defrauding an innkeeper after being unable to pay her two-month hotel bill on the 8400 block of Sunset Boulevard on Aug. 27 at about 4 p.m.

Stolen bags

Someone stole a carry-on luggage bag from the lobby area of a salon on the 8600 block of Almont Drive on Aug. 27 at about 1:30 p.m. The bag contained purses, a digital camera, miscellaneous clothing and shoes. The loss was estimated at about $3,130. 

A thief stole a briefcase from the reception area of an office building on the 8300 block of Santa Monica Boulevard on Aug. 27 at about 2 p.m. The $50 briefcase contained a $1,000 laptop computer, $150 camera, $250 iPod and miscellaneous items. 

While dining at a restaurant on the 8600 block of Sunset Boulevard on Aug. 27 at about 6:45 p.m., a woman had two wallets stolen from her purse. The wallets and its contents were valued at about $3,120. The victim's stolen credit cards were used shortly after to make more than $1,200 in purchases. 

As she walked on the sidewalk at Gardner Street and Hampton Avenue on Aug. 29 at about 11:15 p.m., a woman's backpack was taken by a robber who then fled on foot. The backpack contained a laptop computer, clothing, sunglasses and miscellaneous items valued at about $2,290. 

Vehicle targeted 

A woman reported that while at a nightclub on the 8400 block of Sunset Boulevard on Aug. 29 at about 5:30 p.m., a thief stole a $2,120 iPod and a $465 pair of eyeglasses from her valet parked vehicle. 

Deputies' log

  • Six people were arrested on suspicion of theft or burglary after being observed shoplifting at local retail businesses.
  • Following three separate traffic collisions, three drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
  • Four vehicles were burglarized by unknown suspects. Total estimate of damage and articles taken was $2,050.
  • One vehicle was stolen by an unknown thief.
  • Three reported stolen vehicles were recovered and the owners notified.
  • Eighteen vehicles were impounded for 30 days each because they were being driven by an unlicensed driver or a person with a suspended or revoked license.
