Friday the 13th Was Bad Luck for 4 Suspected DUI Offenders

Personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Services Detail conducted a DUI/DL Checkpoint on Friday, June 13 as part of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department commitment to public safety.

This checkpoint was one of many that have been or will be conducted throughout the year in West Hollywood. The location of Friday’s checkpoint was on San Vicente Boulevard., just north of Beverly Boulevard., conducted between the hours of 7 p.m. and 3 a.m.

Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public. 

This DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint lowers DUI deaths and injuries. A major component of these checkpoints is the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired bring about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers. 

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent. 

• 837 vehicles through the checkpoint 
• 764 drivers checked at the checkpoint 
• 4 DUI – alcohol suspects arrested 
• 1 suspended/revoked driver was arrested and sent to court 
• 5 unlicensed drivers were arrested and sent to court 
• 1 vehicle was impounded for 30 days 
• 7 vehicles were stored for 1 day
