Wednesday's Scoop: Centrum Sunset Neighborhood Meeting and Velvet Underground Singer

Possible uses for the Tower Records/Centrum Sunset property is the topic of a neighborhood meeting while a Velvet Underground singer is reborn, sort of, at Largo. Plus the Transgender Advisory Board meets.

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Wednesday, June 6, the 158th day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

Tower Records/Centrum Sunset Neighborhood Meeting

Sol Barket, the is meeting with residents of the West Hollywood Heights neighborhood to discuss what possible uses would be acceptable on that site, both as it is (not developed) and if built as designed, but without a gym as its major tenant. The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at 1230 Horn Avenue. All area residents are invited to attend.

Board Meeting

The Transgender Advisory Board meets at 7 p.m. in . Among the items on the agenda are Pride week, plans for the Transgender Day of Remembrance and forming a joint subcommittee dealing with bullying with the Lesbian and Gay Advisory Board. The public is welcome to attend this meeting.

Velvet Underground Chanteuse

Following a heralded string of New York performances, actress Tammy Faye Starlite brings her show Chelsea Madchen to . Starlite performs as Nico, the chanteuse who had a brief but memorable tenure with the legendary 1960s glam rock band Velvet Underground. Among the songs Starlite performs, aided by a back-up band, are “I’ll Be Your Mirror,” Femme Fatale” and “All Tomorrow’s Parties.” Doors open at 8 p.m., show at 9 p.m.

  • Early Years spring fundraiser with Weezer at Roxy Theater. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
  • Barb Wire Dolls with Cinderella Motel, Madame Mayhem and The Generators at the Viper Room. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
  • Ben Howard with Bahamas at the Troubadour. Doors open at 8 p.m.
  • L.A. Guns with Kavan, Dive Bomber, Day Above Ground at House of Blues. Doors open at 8 p.m., show at 9 p.m.
  • Fill the Silence with Hotwired and Copkillers at the Whisky a Go Go. Doors open at 8 p.m.
