Tuesday's Scoop: LA Gangster Bio and Laughs at Sea

The Weho Library hosts author Tere Tereba discussing her new biography of LA gangster Mickey Cohen while comics tell jokes to send students on a Semester at Sea at the Improv.

Tere Tereba is not only an award-winning fashion designer, she’s also an accomplished journalist, having written for several national magazines. Now, she’s written a biography about LA gangster Mickey Cohen (1913-1976) that’s getting raves for being a thoroughly researched page turner. Tereba discusses her book, Mickey Cohen: The Life and Crimes of L.A.’s Most Notorious Mobster, at the starting at 7 p.m.

Send Them to the Sea

comedy club hosts a night of laughs to raise funds to send students on the Semester at Sea voyage. Former SAS students Iliza Shlesinger and Theo Von will be performing, along with Ben Gleib, Sherry Sirof, Mychael Anthony and Andrew Santino. Showtime is at 8 p.m. at the , 8162 Melrose Avenue.

Russian Advisory Board

The city’s Russian Advisory Board meets at 7 p.m. in . Items on the agenda include a discussion of the annual National Night, which happens on Aug. 7, and the board’s workplan for 2012-2013. The meeting is open to the public.
