Tuesday's Scoop: L.A. County Sheriff's to Talk Fraud, Commercial Crimes at Weho Library

The seminar is an effort to 'increase awareness and create effective communication between law enforcement and the private sector.'

Greetings, and welcome to today's City Scoop. Here's what's happening Tuesday in West Hollywood:

Fraud and Commercial Crimes Seminar

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, United States Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation and AEGIS Private Security have partnered to host a seminar at the West Hollywood Library on fraud and commerical crime. Speakers include Mayor Pro Tempore Jeffrey Prang and members of the U.S. Secret Service Fraud Squad. Admission is free. Visit www.aegisprivatesecurity.com to register.

Neighborhood Meeting

The Avenues are having a neighborhood meeting in the Community Meeting Room at the West Hollywood Libraryfrom 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Weho's center for the design industry, with over 1.5 million square feet of showrooms, shops and galleries, the district encompasses the streets of Melrose Avenue and Robertson and Beverly Boulevards.

WHAP!

Co-hosted by the City of West Hollywood and the California Institute of the Arts, the lecture series, taking place in Council Chambers at 7 p.m., will center around biology and politics and feature a conversation with Catherine Malabou, professor of philosophy at Kingston University in London; Mike Bryant, a biologist, statistician, and professor at CalArts; and Arne De Boever, a professor and director of the MA Program in Aesthetics and Politics at CalArts. Admission is free. Seating is limited and available on a first come first serve basis.

WAB Club

The reading selection for April is Half the Sky by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. The monthly book club is meeting in the Community Meeting Room from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and will feature a special discussion on Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, led by a PEN Center USA Emerging Voices fellow. Admission is free.

Don Winslow Book Signing

The American author most recognized for his crime and mystery novels will be discuss his newest thriller at this evening. According to the author event description, Satori takes place during the height of the Cold War. "The game is lethal, the stakes enormous. Nicholai Hel is on the board." The event begins at 7 p.m.

The Forecast

The National Weather Service forecasts sunny and mostly clear, with a high near 85 and a low around 53. Expect calm wind becoming south southwest around 5 miles per hour in West Hollywood.
