Sunday's Scoop: Spring Cabaret, Historic Film and Author Readings

Celebration Theatre hosts a Spring Cabaret fundraiser and also gives an award to actor Leslie Jordan, while the June Mazer Lesbian Archive screen an historic film "Mother Art Tells All." Plus two authors at Book Soup.

Come to the Cabaret

Life is a cabaret and there’s not place better to celebrate it than the , 7051 Santa Monica Blvd. The theatre which specializes in LGBT-themed productions offers its second annual “Spring Cabaret!”' benefit show. Actor Leslie Jordan will be honored with the inaugural Vibrant Voice Award. The cabaret repertoire includes performances by LaToya London (American Idol), Sally Struthers, Robert Forster, Sharon Lawrence and Barrett Foa. Reception starts at 7 p.m.; show starts at 8 p.m.

Mother Art

Look back at life for women in the 1970s and 80s as the film Mother Art Tells All screens. Filmmaker Laura Silagi and some of the women featured in the historical film will be on had for the screening held at 3 p.m. in the on the second floor at 626 Robertson Ave. $5 donation is requested.

Women in Danger

Dana Fredsti and Lisa Brackmann will present and sign copies of Plague Town and Getaway, respectively, at at 5 p.m. Plague Town concerns a virus that has turned all of a town’s residents into zombies except the heroine who must fight for both her life and to contain the virus. Getaway involves a woman on vacation in Mexico who thinks she’s being romanced, but winds up involved in a covert operation.

Bands Playing in Town

  • All Day metal show with over a dozen bands at the Whiskey a Go Go. Show starts at 2 p.m.
  • Yeah.Ok.Alright with The Show Ponies, Indian School, Firefox, and Galen & Compendium at the Viper Room. Show starts at 7:30 p.m.
  • Middle Class Rut with Secret Music and Beware Of Darkness at the Troubadour. Doors open at 8 p.m.
  • Lora G at the Roxy Theatre. Show starts at 8 p.m.
