Saturday's Scoop: Lil' Kim, Belinda Carlisle and the Sound of Music

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Saturday, June 9, the 161st day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

Rapper Lil’ Kim and rocker Belinda Carlisle are two of the featured entertainers  for the first day of the LA Pride festival in . The festival is open noon to midnight with lots of activities, dance tents, vendor booths, prizes and giveaways, plus a water park featuring a Titanic water slide. Lil’ Kim performs at 6:10 p.m.; Carlisle at 9:45 p.m. Many other singers are scheduled throughout the day. Admission to the festival is $20, available at the gate.

The Hills Are Alive

“A captain with seven children. What’s a fearsome about that?” Even though it came out 47 years ago, The Sound of Music is still one of America’s favorite movies. Now the seven actors who portrayed the Von Trapp children have put together a collection of photographs and recollections about the filming of that beloved musical. Charmian Carr (Liesl), Angela Cartwright (Brigetta) and Kym Karath (Gretl) will be at at 3 p.m. to discuss the “do-re-mis” of the film and sign copies of The Sound of Music Family Scrapbook.

Councilman John D’Amico holds the third in his series of Coffee with the Councilman gatherings to talk about city issues with residents. This session will focus on the proposed new city budget which the City Council will be taking up at its June 18 meeting. Meet D’Amico in front of Fiesta Hall in at 10 a.m. Once everyone is assembled, the group will find a shady place in the park for the budget talk. D’Amico will bring coffee and have copies of the budget to hand out.

Get some exercise and help West Hollywood Elementary School at the same time. The trendy and uberpopular Soul Cycle at 8570 Sunset Blvd is hosting a special spinning class to benefit the school. “Ride Away at Soul Cycle” begins at 3 p.m.

  • Georgia Anne Muldrow with Dudley Perkins plus Moonchild, Lola Fagbamila and Cakelady Hustla at Key Club. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., show at 8 p.m.
  • 2nd Wheel with Juke Kartel, Elvis Monroe and Charlie Played Cello at Viper Room. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
  • Second Coming with Rolling Radio, War Dog, Israel & DJ Matty at Roxy Theatre. Show starts at 8 p.m.
  • Bob Schneider with Laura Warshauer at the Troubadour. Doors open at 8 p.m.
  • Psychobilly Night with Los Creepers, Black Rose Phantoms, Low Class and Black Monday at House of Blues. Doors open at 8 p.m., show at 9 p.m.
  • Turbonegro pre-release listening party at Viper Room. Show starts at 10 p.m.
