ForumFest 2013
The Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design (LA Forum) is hosting its annual fundraiser ForumFest 2013, honoring Los Angeles-based architect Michael Maltzan, FAIA, of Michael Maltzan Architecture, on Saturday, November 9th, 2013 from 6 to 10 pm. The highly anticipated evening will be held at the Maltzan-designed Inner-City Arts in downtown Los Angeles.
The LA Forum has chosen Michael Maltzan as the honoree because he represents the best of what architecture can do today. Now being built all over the globe, the work of his office started with and continues to engage Los Angeles with an urbanistic and social specificity rooted in continually engaging the question of ‘how do we live here.’ From parks in Playa Vista; to low-income housing in Downtown done in partnership with the Skid Row Housing Trust; to art and museum complexes in urban and suburban conditions alike (including the site of ForumFest 2013, Inner-City Arts, a nonprofit organization near Skid Row that provides free arts education to underprivileged youth), Michael’s work resonates with a focused sophistication and continuous celebration of the power of space, experience, and Southern California light against his dynamic white forms.
