Wind Gusts Could Reach 65 mph in L.A. County

High-wind warning in effect from Thursday morning through Friday afternoon.

The National Weather Service announced Wednesday night that "gusty and potentially damaging Santa Ana winds" were expected to hit Los Angeles and Ventura counties Thursday morning. As a result, a high-wind warning was issued from 4 a.m. Thursday through 2 p.m. Friday.

The warning stated that the strongest winds were expected for mountain areas in both counties, as well as for Santa Clarita, other areas of Ventura County, and the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys. Strong winds were also expected along the coast from the Ventura County line to the Hollywood Hills, according to the warning.

The National Weather Service predicted that winds in the Santa Monica Mountains and Topanga will be between 25 and 40 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 65 miles per hour.

Winds will be at their strongest on Thursday and were expected to taper off on Friday, according to the warning.

High winds may cause downed trees and power lines. Officials warned residents never to touch downed power lines, even if they don't appear to be live, and to call 911 immediately.
