Week in Review: Dobrin Day, Proposition 8 and Music Festival

This week brought a wide range of coverage in entertainment, crime and Prop. 8 activism in West Hollywood. On Tuesday, Patch.com also celebrated the launch of its 100th site. Here's a recap of what happened in West Hollywood, including the release of the artists' set times for the Sunset Strip Street Festival on Aug. 26-28.

MONDAY

Patch.com celebrated the launch of its 100th site. I shared my experience with settling into the position as your local editor for West Hollywood Patch.

On our weekly visit to Weho's Farmers Market, we met Chef Penny Stanley, a professional private chef to the stars.

The set times for artists performing at the Sunset Strip Street Festival were released.

WEDNESDAY

Longtime resident and activist Jeanne Dobrin, who will celebrate her 90th birthday Monday, is recognized by city officials for her dedication to the community.

Weekly columnist Mito Aviles shared why boycotting companies that stand in the way of equality is an effective form of protest.

Gay rights activists organized a demonstration to fight for same-sex marriage. We learned that the emergency demonstration would be held Thursday.  

THURSDAY

Thousands of people will head to the Sunset Strip Music Festival next weekend. Several parking structures, shuttle and public transportation options are available for attendees.

Assemblyman Mike Feuer hopes the IRS will act on his recommendation to allow same-sex married couples to claim their income as community property. Find out more about his resolution and how it could affect same-sex married couples.

FRIDAY

Reporter Brantley Watson took us inside the Hollywood Aerial Arts studio and introduced us to one of its instructors, Tania Holt, a West Hollywood resident.
