Thursday's Scoop: Jack Black, Firefighters and Sunset Strip Market

Actor Jack Black joins Megan Mullally for a musical comedy show at Largo. Meanwhile hunky firemen set House of Blues on fire with a firefighters' bachelors auction. Plus the Sunset Strip farmers' market is back for its weekly visit.

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Thursday, August 30, the 243rd day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

Karen Walker and Jack Black  

Megan Mullally came to national prominence as the pill-popping, vodka-swilling Karen Walker on TV’s Will & Grace. But Mullally can also sing and proves how good a voice she has with her monthly musical comedy show that features her new band, Nancy & Beth. Joining the fun this month is actor Jack Black, who’s also the lead singer of rock comedy group Tenacious D. Stephanie Hunt (of Friday Night Lights fame) is also on hand to lend her vocals, making for a delicious evening. Showtime is 9 p.m. at .

Setting the Place on Fire

Some of the hunkiest men around are firefighters. Now some of the hottest of those fireman burn the house down as hosts a firefighters’ bachelor auction for charity. Sisanie from KIIS-FM hosts the event that features 14 of LA’s finest firefighters lighting up the stage. Proceeds benefit the Los Angeles Firemen's Relief Association - Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen's Fund. The night also features 80s cover band Flashback Heart Attack. Doors open at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m.

Sunset Strip Market

The Sunset Strip is lot livelier on Thursday nights thanks to the , a certified farmers’ market that also features live music. Stock up on the freshest of produce for the weekend, grab a meal and enjoy acoustic performances by Oldboy Records, Charlie Clark and Chris Laterzo. Open 5-9 p.m., the is in the old Tower Records overflow parking lot, just east of Horn Avenue.
