A Trip to Isla Cantina

With great food, drinks, and a unique environment, Isla is a place to add to your destination on the Sunset Strip.

While I love West Hollywood for its hot hotels and trendy clubs, most recently my attention has diverted to its restaurants. One of my new favorite spots in West Hollywood is a quaint little cantina called Isla Cantina. Brightly light on a corner of Sunset Boulevard, Isla is a small Mexican inspired lounge, serving the best in steak, seafood, and alcohol. With amazing prices and great tasting food, this cantina is a must try.

Even better is the fact that Isla has done a great job at tapping into the lounge and restaurant styles, which has allowed it to stand out in a crowded market of restaurants on the same strip. While other restaurants highlight their club feel, upscale menu, or gritty bar aesthetic, Isla maintains its Hispanic roots yet incorporates the ambiance of a Southern California lounge. Dim interior lighting, inside and patio seating, large televisions, and a fantastic DJ make the restaurant the type of place you want to visit if it’s a date or a night out with your friends.

I initially stumbled upon this spot after seeing its neon sign late one night and had to go inside. At the time, I only wanted a drink and was shocked at how great and inexpensive their beverages were. Having over 100 tequilas and a knack for mixing drinks, you are guaranteed to enjoy what you pay for.

I went back last weekend and once again loved my drink and food, but really enjoyed how relaxed the restaurant was. Catering to an audience anywhere between recently legal and mature, Isla catches the eye of those who want to go out, but still remember the night out the next day.

It’s the perfect place to go to whether starting the night off or ending it with a bang. Since it has televisions playing sports, the best music from the DJ, and food and beverages, you get the feel that you are living the night up—regardless of the day of the week.
