West Hollywood's Irv's Burgers Will Be Rehabilitated

A city spokesperson says the historic building will not be demolished.

It turns out West Hollywood landmark hamburger stand Irv's Burgers is in no danger of being demolished, but instead will undergo rehabilitation work, Curbed L.A. reported.

Owner Sonia Hong was recently served a 30-day notice to vacate the premises, according to Route 66 News.

A city spokesperson told Curbed the historic building "is not being demolished but is instead being rehabilitated."

"The approved plans allow for both buildings on the site to be rehabilitated into two restaurants. The plans include the renovation and reuse of the former auto repair building, including an outdoor dining patio, and the rehabilitation of the Irv's building to remain as a restaurant."

Hong and her family have owned the 63-year-old hamburger shack at Santa Monica Boulevard and Sweetzer Avenue since 2000.

Hong told Patch in January she was feeling pressured to relocate Irv's by associates of her new commercial neighbors. The family has been operating the eatery on a month-to-month basis since their five-year lease expired.
