Candlelight Vigil for Texas Lesbians

Vigil will be Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Matthew Shepard Triangle in honor of the two lesbian teenagers in Texas who were shot in the head last week.

A candlelight vigil will be held Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the Matthew Shepard Triangle on the northeast corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Crescent Heights Boulevard.

Vigil organizer Rev. Scott Imler of the now defunct Crescent Heights Methodist Church said the vigil is in honor of the two Texas lesbians who were shot in the head last week.

According to ABC news, Molly Olgin, 19, Mary Kristene Chapa, 18, were both shot in the head a week ago in a park in Portland, Texas, a Gulf Coast town eight miles north of Corpus Christi.

The teenagers were found June 23 in knee-high grass near a scenic lookout at Violet Andrews Park. Olgin was pronounced dead at the scene. Chapa was taken to a hospital and has since regained consciousness but is partially paralyzed and unable to speak.

A memorial service was held for Olgin on Friday. Police have not determined if it was a hate crime.
