Outfest Today: Friday at the Movies

Outfest is underway. The 30th annual LA gay and lesbian film festival moves into the second day of its 10-day run with seven films being screened for Friday the 13th.
But there isn’t anything unlucky about Outfest. Many people have stated that Outfest is their favorite time of year in LA.
More than just an LGBT-film festival, Outfest is a community event where people catch up with old friends and make new friends easily thanks to a common conversation topic – movies.

Outfest also offers movie-lovers the chance to meet directors and stars thanks to the Q&A sessions following screenings and after parties held at area clubs.
The seven films are being screened at three different venues:

- Directors Guild of America (DGA) theater (7920 Sunset Blvd. at Fairfax Avenue)
- Harmony Gold theater (7655 Sunset Blvd. at Stanley Avenue)
- REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theatre) at the Disney Concert Hall (631 W. 2nd Street) in downtown Los Angeles.
Same day tickets can be purchased at the venue box office one hour prior to screening time, depending on availability. Advance tickets for screenings happening later in the festival can be purchased in the DGA lobby.

Looking For ? – shorts program examining the theme of what people are looking for in romantic partners (7 p.m., DGA Theater 1).
Facing Mirrors – Iranian drama about a female cab driver who helps a woman desperately trying to get out of the country, only to discover the woman is transgender (8 p.m., DGA Theater 2).
My Best Day – quirky comedy about a crazy series of events that happens to a small-town lesbian forced to work her receptionist job on the July 4th holiday (9:15 p.m., Harmony Gold Theater).
She Male Snails – Swedish-Danish psychological drama about a transgender boy struggling to be who he wants to be versus who society tells him to be (9:30 p.m., REDCAT).
I Want Your Love – drama about a man leaving San Francisco who reconnects with his ex-boyfriend at his going away party (9:45 p.m., DGA Theater 1).
