In honor of Harvey Milk Day, the city hosts a panel discussion with writers, actors and educators talking about the first openly gay elected official's legacy 34 years after he was assassinated.

West Hollywood marked the third annual Harvey Milk Day on Tuesday with a special panel discussion and short documentary debut in the City Council Chamber at West Hollywood Library.

Tony Valenzuela, the executive director of the Lambda Literary Foundation, moderated the panel titled “Got Milk – The Collision of the Arts & Social Justice in the Post-Harvey Milk Era.” Five actors, writers and educators offered their insights into Milk’s contribution to society today.

The evening also included the debut of a 10-minute documentary by Fairfax High School freshman Max Geschwind. The 15-year-old, who interns in City Hall, said he decided to make the film so people would know what a true champion Milk was.
