Thursday's Scoop: 'Motley Crue Day' Declared in West Hollywood

A tribute to the metal band that got its start by playing the Whisky A Go-Go and the Roxy Theatre will kick off the Sunset Strip Music Festival.

Main Event: Motley Crue Day

The city of West Hollywood has declared today Motley Crue Day in Weho. The heavy metal band that "helped re-establish the Sunset Strip as one of the top music destinations in the world," says SSMF Executive Director Todd Steadman, will receive the 2011 Elmer Valentine Award at a ceremony this evening at the . The invitation-only event kicks off the fourth annual Sunset Strip Music Festival, a three-day celebration of music held along the iconic 1.6 mile stretch of Sunset Boulevard.

Other Happenings:
