Saturday's Scoop: Pirates, Tangos and Adoptions

A Pirate Festival drops anchor at the Factory, while tango performances invade Fiesta Hall. Plus a workshop about adopting is at the West Hollywood Library.

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Saturday, May 19, 2012, the 140th day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

Ahoy all pirates. Don you pirate garb and head off to a pirate’s booty of beer, rum and bacon as the Pirate Festival comes to Weho. A buffet lunch will have various entrees, appetizers and desserts all featuring bacon, including a bacon wrapped hot dog. To wash it down are various imported rums and beers. Adams Attic performs. The Pirate Festival runs 1-5 p.m. at the . Proceeds benefit the Children’s Tumor Foundation.

Adoption Options

The third and final workshop focusing on building families deals with adoption. Robyn Harrod, LCSW with Southern California Foster Family and Adoption Agency, will lead a discussion about various forms of adoption including private adoptions, international adoptions and foster-care adoptions. The free workshop is 10 a.m. to noon in the Community Meeting Room of the .

Tango Around the World

The continues with `Tango Around the World.'' The show will feature singers Eduard Khorovsky, Mariana Popzlateva, Lillia Teterina and composer Anthony Michaels. World renowned Argentine tango dancer masters Sergei Tumas and Michelline Coonrod plus Fred Lessantiz and Mona Lewis, Jose Espinosa and West Hollywood Tango Class Studio “Dance Revolution” are scheduled to perform. The show gets underway at 4 p.m. in Fiesta Hall in . $15 donation requested.

British Comedic Invasion

Fresh from the Edinburgh Comedy Festival, comic Sarah Coomes brings her one-woman show to . Proclaimed by Britain’s The Guardian as “sublimely talented and hilarious,” Coomes will make you roar with her decidedly British take on things. Showtime is 7 p.m.

All Star Comedy

Put some laughter into your Saturday night as the offers three different shows, at 8 p.m., 10 p.m. and midnight. Catch some laughs with LA’s top comics including Dane Cook, Sunda Croonquist, Bill Dawes, Iliza Shlesinger and Jay Reid.
