Pinches Tacos: Holey 'Mole' Tacos!

Pinches Tacos serves up authentic Guadalajaran-style tacos, burritos, sopes, taquitos, and tortas.

You don't have to go south of the border to find authentic Mexican food—just head for .

After all, you can't miss it. It's nestled smack in the middle of the Sunset Strip in a bright pink building the color of Pepto-Bismal. The interior is decorated with vintage Mexican posters, crafts, and a cooler filled with glass bottles of Mexican Coke made with real sugar, but it is the food that keeps people coming back again and again.

On the covered patio which overlooks , you can chow down on chicken tacos smothered in a dark, rich mole sauce ($2.50), crispy shrimp tacos topped with creamy Veracruz slaw ($2.95), potato & manchego taquitos ($2.95), and Mexican corn on the cob ($3.95). They even have homemade guava flan ($3.50) to satisfy your sweet tooth.

There is a simple reason why everything at Pinches Tacos tastes so good. The authentic Guadalajaran-stye food is made fresh using decades old family recipes. Nothing is frozen at Pinches—even the small, super soft corn tortillas are made from scratch.

The extensive menu showcases 18 different varieties of tacos. Want to sample several tacos? Then order the taco platter,  which comes with three tacos (you can mix and match), refried beans, fried corn chips, and Mexican rice.

Favorite tacos include the Asada, made with tender grilled Angus beef topped with a tomatillo salsa ($2.95); the Adobada, made with chili-marinated pork ($2.50); and the Pescado, made with crispy battered fish smothered in creamy Veracruz slaw ($2.95). If you are feeling adventurous, then opt for the aptly-named Lengua, which is made with beef tongue and pork ($2.75).

Even though this casual Mexican eatery lacks a liquor license, feel free to BYOB. There's even a "hotline" to the liquor store across the street, who will deliver bottles of wine and six packs of beer right to your table.

Pinches Tacos is the best kind of street food—rich, flavorful, affordable, not all that healthy, but worth it all the same. It is perfect for lunch, dinner, or a late night snack after an evening out on the town (they're open Thursday through Saturday until 3 a.m.).
