Rebecca Mandell started Dog's Best Friend in 2004 when she became increasingly alarmed by the methods utilized by many dog trainers in the South Bay, who use combinations of physical domination, "corrections," yelling, choke, prong or electronic shock collars, and alpha rolls.

While such force and fear-based approaches might yield some short term changes they are almost never long lasting, and much more importantly, inflict physical and emotional pain on the dogs.

As a Positive Reinforcement Dog Trainer, prospective clients often come to her after trying such dominance and fear based methods, only to discover they do not work, and have served to undermine their dog’s spirit and confidence. Worse yet, they have made any fear-based aggression/anxiety issues much more severe.

Rebecca is an active member of the dog rescue community and has seen countless tragic examples of dogs who have been abandoned to the local shelters after their aggression issues have significantly increased from such fear and force based training. Rebecca evaluates and trains rescued dogs for the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Rescue and Rover Rescue and is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and Truly Dog Friendly, an international group of positive reinforcement trainers fighting against the use of harsh training methods in their profession.

Rebecca resides in the South Bay of Los Angeles with her husband, Corey, and two rescued rascals, Rusty and Spencer.
