In the running are classes at 6-month-old Cycle House on La Cienega Boulevard, Up Dog Yoga + Cycling and 24 Hour Fitness on Santa Monica Boulevard, the Sunset Strip's Equinox and trendy NYC chain SoulCycle. Don't see what you like? Tell us in the comments, and we'll make sure to add it to the poll. Voting ends at 5 p.m. Friday. University High is seeking its first league triumph since 2007.
Having concluded the nonleague portion of its schedule with three victories, the Fairfax High football team will open Western League play at Belmont High Friday against defending champion Venice and Coach Shane Cox hopes his Lions are up to the challenge. Fairfax is the last team to beat the Gondos in league, but that was way back in 2005. The Lions won the City Section Division II title last year and moved up to Division I this season. They are hoping to finish high enough in the standings to earn a playoff berth. Here's a preview of the Western League, along with Friday's matchups: Venice Gondoliers (1-4) Last season: 8-5 overall, 5-0 in league (1st place) How can a team that lost four if its five nonleague games be considered the …

Townsend offers a wide range of classes at her West Hollywood yoga studio.
Meaghan Kennedy Townsend was not always a yoga instructor. After nearly losing her leg in a skiing accident, the L.A.-based member of the Kennedy family opened Up Dog Yoga + Cycling on Santa Monica Boulevard in the heart of West Hollywood. “Doctors can’t believe I am doing the things that I am doing," Townsend told Weho Patch. "There’s something about connecting with your body that you can kind of overpower your mind." But the Harvard-educated former business analyst's "aha" moment came well before opening up her own studio. Townsend was out to sushi with a friend when the man sitting next to her at the bar asked what she did for a living. Townsend's mouth full, her friend volunteered. "She's a yoga instructor," she said. Townsend had …

Local sports: The Lions, waiting for construction to be finished for their new stadium, get on a yellow school bus again today for another road game.
After a slow start that began with a 37-point opening loss at Harvard-Westlake, Fairfax’s football team is coming along nicely. The defending City Section Division II champion Lions have won two in a row, including a 14-7 victory last week at respectable Reseda – an opponent that went 10-0 in the regular season last year – and Fairfax (2-1) wants to keep building momentum today at 3 p.m. at Los Angeles Marshall. Marshall is 1-2, but the Barristers feature a dynamic running back in Walter Moctezuma, who has rushed for 304 yards and five touchdowns, including a 122-yard, two-touchdown performance last week in a 50-22 loss to Bonita. As a junior last season, Moctezuma rushed for 1,190 yards and scored 17 touchdowns in 11 games. “He’s a great …
