The Schindler House is a landmark architectural and historic site in West Hollywood. It was designed by Viennese emigreMore Rudolf Schindler in the 1920s for his family and other artists. It is considered the first house built in the Modern style. The design of the house was unique for its cooperative live and work spaces, industrial materials and integration of interior and exterior environments. Over its history, the house was a gathering place for progressive and avant-garde artists. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. It has been operated by the MAK Center for Art and Architecture since 1994. The organization is a satellite of the MAK - Austrian Museum of Applied Arts/Contemporary Art in Vienna.

Housemate matching programs are available, matching seniors with other seniors, mid-age and younger people in their homes, apartments and condominiums, so they may have affordable housing, company, sense of security and the ability to make ends meet. It is an alternative to living alone and to institutionalization. For seniors 55 and older, it offers co-op style living, and in West Hollywood it has single and one-bedroom apartments. Seniors 62 and older have different co-op style residences available in the Los Angeles and West Hollywood areas.

West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation develops safe and affordable housing for people with limited income. TheMore nonprofit corporation has developed more than a dozen projects in the area, with a goal of adding 40 more units per year. Properties are either built or acquired and rehabilitated by the organization, then managed using an enhanced management model that provides extra support and services for residents. Most residents are elderly or disabled on fixed or limited incomes. Funding comes from municipal, state, federal and private sources. The corporation moved to its present location in 2010. This location is also one of the housing developments, Sierra Bonita Apartments, featuring 42 units in a mixed-use building with environmentally sound green building features.
