West Hollywood Police Blotter: Grand Theft Auto, Burglary and Domestic Violence

Of 31 crimes reported in West Hollywood from May 7-13, eight were petty theft, eight were burglary, two were domestic violence and five were grand theft auto.

Rescue of Dog Locked in Warm Car Leads to Discovery of Drugs

West Hollywood Sheriff's Deputies rescue a dog locked inside a warm car on Sunday. In trying to find the owner's identity, deputies find bundles of marijuana and cash.

The rescue of a dog locked inside an 1993 Nissan Pathfinder with Arizona license plates resulted in the discovery of drugs and cash inside the SUV whose owner was being sought today. Deputies were sent around 1:30 p.m. Sunday to the 1200 block of North Ogden Drive, after receiving a report that a dog was locked inside the vehicle on a relatively warm, sunny afternoon. Deputies decided to break into the van to rescue the animal. In an effort to identify the dog’s owner, a bag inside the car was opened, exposing several bundles of sealed marijuana. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed $10,000 in cash inside the vehicle, according to Sgt. Chris Tatar of the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station. The marijuana has an estimated street value …

How can there be no comment? First: I am very happy the dog was rescued. Second: The whole idea of a dog left in a parked car on a warm day is simply cruel. Third: I doubt the dog or the car will be rescued by the owner. UPDATED: Bomb Squad Investigates Suspicious Package at Sunset Blvd. and Crescent Heights

Traffic was blocked near Sunset Boulevard and Crescent Heights as LAPD bomb squad investigated suspicious package.

UPDATE 3: Los Angeles Police Department reports that "no devise was located" and that the suspicious package was an "empty safe only." UPDATE 2: Roads reopened at Sunset Boulevard and Crescent Heights. UPDATE: City News Service reports a suspicious package was found in the Chase bank in the 8100 block of Sunset Boulevard. The bank was evacuated.   Sunset Boulevard is shut down near the intersection of Crescent Heights Boulevard. Update: Man Surrenders After Attempted Robbery

Man reportedly tried to rob a retired police officer who was eating at a restaurant near the border of West Hollywood and Los Angeles. The man then fled into nearby store.

A man who tried to rob a retired police officer in a restaurant, then barricaded himself in a clothing store near West Hollywood surrendered to police today after a three-hour standoff with a SWAT team, authorities said. Crisis negotiators called to the Gregory's clothing store at 147 N. Robertson Boulevard persuaded the man to surrender around 1 a.m., police said. The attempted robbery occurred at The Third Stop restaurant at 8636 W. Third Street near Cedars-Sinai Medical Center about 7:50 p.m. Thursday, police said. The suspect drew a knife and tried to rob the retired officer as he was having dinner in the restaurant with his girlfriend, said Lt. Andy Neiman, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman. I was eating breakfast near that area on Fairfax and a teen female student with a backpack came in and up to just my table grabbed a fork and broke my sunny side egg yolks with a few stabs and laughed as she fled the restaurant. It was bizarre.   more ›

Alleged Bank Robber in Custody

Man who robbed banks in West Hollywood, Los Angeles and West Covina between Nov. 2011 and Jan. 2012 is now in custody.

A man dubbed the ``Explosives Threat Bandit,'' who allegedly robbed banks in West Hollywood, Los Angeles and West Covina, was in custody Tuesday, authorities said. William Joseph Allen was arrested on April 17, and remains in federal custody, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said. Allen allegedly threatened to blow up the banks he robbed, and in each case left a fake bomb behind, the FBI said. The crimes occurred from November of 2011 to January 2012.
