Councilwoman Abbe Land

  • Abbe Land was elected to City's Planning Commission in 1985; she was then elected to the City Council for her first term in 1986. She served as councilmember and mayor until 1997. She was then elected to the City Council in 2003 and was reelected in 2007.
  • Currently, she is the co-chief executive officer of The Saban Free Clinic. She serves as a representative on the Westside Council of Governments (COG) and is the co-chairperson of the Westside COG's Sustainability Committee. She is also a member of the Council of Advisors for the Westside Economic Collaborative.
  • Previously, Land was also a member of the board of the National League of Cities and the California League of Cities, the Southern California Association of Governments, the California Women Lead and the president of Women in Municipal Government. She was also the director of Development for the Feminist Majority Foundation.
  • She has received awards such as the Women Taking the Lead to Save Our Planet by the National Women's History Month Project in 2009, 50@50+ LA Award by the Big Thinking Women Unlimited in 2007, Courageous Leader Award from Women Against Gun Violence in 2007 and the President's Award from the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
