Medical Identity Theft

Fastest Growing Identity Theft in the World

The act of using an individual's name and identity credentials, in particular insurance information, to fraudulently obtain medical care or medicine as well as to submit phony bills is Medical Identity Theft.

The 2013 Survey on Medical Identity Theft conducted by Ponemon Institute polled 43,000 people in the U.S. if they or family members had suffered this type of fraud and what it cost them. Nearly 2% of those polled said they had experienced medical identity theft. Victims claim they paid out an average of $18,660 to pay for services to imposters, legal fees, or lapse in healthcare coverage as a result of medical identity theft.  Find out how your doctor’s office can help protect your medical identity, read more...
