VIDEO: Carmageddon Comes and Goes in LA
Angelenos get to know their community a little bit better with the weekend-long closure of the 405 freeway.
It was supposed to be the traffic jam of all traffic jams. The was everyone's nightmare. But this nightmare ended up turning into a great dream with the freeway . (Although some businesses suffered, it was lessened by that early completion)
But it was much more than a freeway closure. It was about community. People everywhere got out of their cars and went on foot to restaurants, shops, and farmers' markets. They explored the cities and towns where they live.
So although it's back to cars, freeways and traffic jams, the people of Los Angeles got a glimpse of what it would be like to change their lifestyle, even for a day. Maybe the result will be more of us taking mass transit, riding bikes, walking and creating stronger communities.
