Did you know that the color of the tag speaks to a different day of the week? To be more specific, the color reflects the day of the week in which the bread was baked. The expiration date is also printed on the tag, but the color is what you should really go for, plus it's easier to spot a color than a small stamp that sometimes is either missing or smudged.

According to Food Network Magazine, here is the breakdown:

  • Blue: Monday
  • Green: Tuesday
  • Red: Thursday
  • White: Friday
  • Yellow: Saturday

According to the magazine's April 2012 edition, "The colors run in alphabetical order - the earlier in the alphabet, the earlier in the week the bread was baked."

Now with that fresh baked knowledge, don't waste another minute looking through each loaf for the smudged stamp and instead, go by color!
Cheers!
