Fairfax High Volleyball Seeded No. 8 in Playoffs

The Lions will host Maywood in the first round of the Division II tournament on Tuesday.

The City Section boys volleyball playoff seedings were determined Tuesday night and Fairfax High has been awarded the No. 8 seed in Division II. The Lions host No. 9 Maywood Academy in the first round of the 16-team, single-elimination tournament Tuesday at 7 p.m.

If victorious, Fairfax will either host 16th-seeded Canoga Park or travel to top-seeded Verdugo Hills in the quarterfinals next Thursday, also at 7 p.m. The Lions (11-9-2 overall, 7-5 in league) beat in five sets in their regular season finale Monday and finished third in the  behind and .

The semifinals are May 17 at 7 p.m. and the final is Saturday, May 21, at 2:30 p.m. at Roybal Learning Center.

Verdugo Hills is the No. 1 seed in Division II, followed by LA Jordan, Eagle Rock and Bravo Medical. Three other Western League schools are also in the 16-team draw. University is No. 6, Venice is No. 10 and  is No. 12. 

is seeded No. 2 in the 24-team  tournament. The Dolphins have a first-round bye and host the winner of Thursday's match between No. 15 Granada Hills Kennedy and No. 18 Chatsworth in the second round Tuesday at 7 p.m.

West Valley League champion Granada Hills, which defeated Palisades in four sets in a nonleague match in March, is the No. 1 seed in Division I and also has a first-round bye. 

Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies, which finished sixth out of seven teams in the Western League, is seeded No. 6 in the Small Schools Division.
