No Sunday Funday for EQCA

Did Equality California's scheduling keep turnout low at Prop 8 forums?

On Sunday, May 22, Equality California scheduled one of its Town Hall Meetings to discuss whether or not to go back to the voters in an attempt to restore marriage rights in California. About 50 people showed up, according to reports, which is more than I would have expected.

Based on their scheduling of events, it seemed to me that Equality California was intentionally trying to supress turnout in order to justify the conclusion that there was not support for returning to the ballot.

Of course, if you were trying to schedule an event in West Hollywood that no one showed up at, holding it at 5:30 p.m. on a Sunday is a the perfect time unless you hold it at .

Their meeting in San Francisco was apparently scheduled to conflict with three other LGBT gatherings, and their Long Beach Town Hall was set for the evening AFTER the town's Pride celebration.

Whether to return to the ballot should not be a question--we MUST.

Unless the Supreme Court says otherwise, the only way that Prop 8 will be repealed is by a vote of the people.  EQCA needs to either lead that effort or get out of the way, and go focus on socio-economic justice...

The real question is when do we return to the ballot and who will be in charge.
