Rep. Schiff Applauds Inclusion of Marriage Equality in Democratic Platform
Drafting committee for the Democratic National Convention embraces marriage equality as part of the platform for the 2012 convention.
The following is a press release from the office of Congressman Adam Schiff
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) applauded the announcement from the Democratic National Committee Tuesday that the drafting committee for the Democratic National Convention embraced marriage equality as part of the platform for the 2012 Convention in a unanimous vote. Following this step, the full platform committee will have to vote on it, and then it will be presented to all of the delegates attending the convention in Charlotte.
"Today's announcement is another step in the long journey towards full equality," said Schiff. "Since the President's announcement earlier this summer, the drumbeat of support for marriage equality has continued to grow, and inclusion in the Democratic platform is an important next step.

"I was proud to help organize the support of my fellow California House Democrats in calling for marriage equality's inclusion in the platform, and hope that all Members of Congress join us in calling on the delegates to include it in the final platform at the Convention."
Schiff gathered support of almost the entire California Democratic Congressional Delegation to sign onto the Freedom to Marry letter to the Democratic Party Platform Drafting Committee urging them to include marriage equality in the platform.
