Planing Commission Pays Tribute to Lauren Meister

Temporarily appointed by Councilman John D'Amico, the former commissioner served from May 2011 to February 2012.

The Planning Commission took time at the end of Thursday's meeting to pay tribute to former Commissioner Lauren Meister, whose last meeting was on Feb. 16.

Meister was appointed in May by John D'Amico shortly after he was elected to the City Council. D'Amico is who served on the commission from 1996-2011 as the appointee of Councilman John Heilman.

Members of the Planning Commission Thursday said they would miss working with Meister.

Commissioner Roy Huebner, who joined the committee in June as the appointee of Mayor John Duran, said he felt more at ease being new thanks to Meister.

“I really appreciated her dedication and perspective,” he said. “I really liked her dedication to detail.”

Commissioner David Aghaei, who replaced Altschul as Heilman’s appointee applauded Meister's work on the Commission.

“She did a good job representing the community generally and their interests," Aghaei said. "I’m sure it’s not the last we will see of her.”

Commissioner Marc Yeber, appointee of Councilwoman Abbe Land, commented Meister had the ability to notice things that might otherwise have been missed when discussing a particular project or issue.

“I will miss her,” Yeber said. “I hope to see her as frequently as possible here at the commission.”

Commissioner Sue Buckner, an at-large appointee, agreed.

“I look forward to her coming here often, which I expect she will [do] and offering her perspective in public comment,” Buckner said.

“She will be missed,” said Commissioner Donald DeLuccio, appointed in 1997 by Councilman Jeff Prang. “I’m sure we will see her not only at this Commission, but also in service to the community in a lot of ways.”

Commission Chair Alan Bernstein, a four-year at-large appointee, said Meister elevated the group’s discussion. “Whatever her perspective is, I look forward to hearing more of it,” Bernstein said.

Meister was not present at the meeting to hear these tributes.

How about showing some much needed respect and re-appointing Ms Meister?

Sure, they heap praise when she is not there to hear it. She should be re-appointed seeing as how the other Planning Commissioners all appreciate her attention to detail and her vision and input. Mr. Altschul should see that she is so appreciated and do what's best for the City and decline the appointment.

Very interesting how this issue has suddenly taken a very low profile. Not a peep from anyone. Mr. Altschul's considerable presence was no where in evidence Thursday night and Lauren Meister was absent from her going away party accolades. Stranger yet, the next opportunity for the commission has been cancelled so now we shall fast forward to April? The reappointed Mr. Altschul will presumably then grace us with his acumen delivered in his unmistakable haughty manner.

That's what we need the same guy that was there for 15 years back on the planning commission! Rotation of leadership WeHo style!

I don't even live in WeHo, but I've witnessed Lauren's brilliance. It's a loss for the entire city. I suggest that cooler heads prevail and the citizens make sure she's back where she belongs, sooner, rather than later.

Interesting Atschukt badk in and a few days later he is commenting against the sunset gym/tower records project which was taken off calendar. in like one sentence he said he lives within 500 feet of the proposed project and cout not vote on it, while makinging he strong oppositiion to it at the same time. Coincidence? No. Unbiased opinion? No. Basicc 500 foot anti-conflict rule followed - NO! And it was his first officcial public position printed in the press. He should be taken out as fast as he was improperly switched in by D:Amico's sole discression.
