Petition Seeks to Stop Robo-Garage from Being Built

A new petition at change.org is trying to stop the city from building an automated parking garage behind City Hall. It cites concern about the $16 million cost, reliability of the technology and the actual need for additional parking in the area.

The has met little opposition since it was . But now that the , opposition is beginning to mount.

A new petition at Change.org is seeking to stop the robotic garage from being built.

The letter accompanying the petition says the technology the garage will incorporate has “no long-term operational track record to demonstrate its stability and capacity to operate with out service interruptions.”

It cites the $16 million price tag as an “irresponsible use of public funds” and the “most expensive approach to adding parking to this part of the city.” It further cites concerns about selling bonds to pay for the garage, thereby increasing the city’s debt.

Additionally, the petition says “the need for additional parking in this area has not been clearly established by any study or independent analysis or report.”
