Landavazo Launches Civic Engagement Initiative

Christopher Landavazo, a candidate for City Council, on Friday began an online survey to gauge West Hollywood residents' civic priorities and encourage participation in local governance.

The survey focuses on 10 issue platforms that Landavazo seeks to address in the order of importance as ranked by survey respondents. The civic subject categories are:

• Civic Engagement/Civic Impact Zones
• Public Safety
• Transparency
• Economic Development
• Affordable Housing
• Implementation of Smart Growth Principles
• Health and Wellness and Social Services
• Transportation/Traffic/Parking
• Going Green
• Term Limits

"The key to civic engagement in West Hollywood is creating a new way to engage our residents in the process of decision making, listening to the our residents and being responsive to their needs," Landavazo said in a statement. "My platforms are just the starting points for discussion with our community." 

In addition to launching the survey, the candidate kicked off his initiative by detailing the first platform, "Civic Engagement/Civic Impact Zones."

He seeks to establish what he called the "West Hollywood Civic Engagement Team," which would consist of members of the city governement and community.

Landavazo also wants to expand the use of the NIXLE electronic notification system, which is currently utilized by public safety agencies across the nation, to alert Weho residents about events that include quality-of-life issues such as road closures and power outages, scheduled public meetings and public safety issues.

Residents can choose to receive notices via text message, email or by checking the NIXLE website.

Landavazo estimated this localized NIXLE system would cost $2,790 annually.
