Gov. Brown Appoints Openly Gay, Lesbian Judges
The governor selects a gay man and lesbian to serve in California courts.
Jim Humes will be the first openly gay justice to serve on the California Court of Appeals, The Huffington Post reported Wednesday. Paula Rosenstein, who is openly lesbian, will serve on the San Diego Superior Court.
It's the first time the governor has appointed openly gay or lesbian people to court vacancies since returning to the governor’s office in 2011, according to the Bay Area Reporter. Brown did not previously disclose that any of his judicial appointments were members of the LGBT community.
Humes has been Brown's executive secretary for legal affairs, administration and policy since last year and was also on Brown's staff when he was California's attorney general.
