An Oxnard woman charged with embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from a West Hollywood business where she was an executive is facing prison time and restitution payments after pleading guilty to grand theft and tax charges, authorities said today.
Donna Glenn Walker, 57, pled guilty last week during her preliminary hearing in Superior Court in Los Angeles.
She was in Winter Haven, Fla., after prosecutors in Los Angeles County filed a five-count felony complaint on Jan. 19 alleging she embezzled at least $812,000 from ., a post-production sound company, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Peter Gomez.
The theft was reported in 2008 by the owner of the business, where Walker was vice president, Gomez said.
As detective Simeon Plyler of the sheriff's Commercial Crimes Bureau began investigating the case and a search warrant was served at Walker's residence, authorities learned she had fled the state. She was eventually located in Florida, where she was arrested on a Los Angeles County warrant, according to Gomez.
The complaint charged Walker with theft, not reporting income and failure to pay state taxes on the embezzled funds, he said, adding that the California Franchise Tax Board took part of the investigation.
Walker is due to be sentenced Sept. 14. She is being held in lieu of $812,000 bail at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, where she was booked on Feb. 25, according to online Sheriff's Department records.
