"Terminator 2" actor Edward Furlong was sentenced Monday to five years probation for assaulting his girlfriend, and was ordered to get drug treatment and domestic violence counseling.

Furlong, 35, pleaded no contest to an amended felony charge of willful infliction of corporal injury on a cohabitant or spouse in exchange for dismissal of a half-dozen other charges, according to the prosecution.

Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Mark Zuckman ordered Furlong to attend 90 days of a drug treatment program and 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling. He was sentenced to 61 days jail time in addition to probation, but received credit for time served, so is not expected to return to jail.

Zuckman also issued a protective order which includes a condition that the actor avoid all contact with the victim for at least the next three months. The order is effective for the length of Furlong's probation, but the "stay away" condition will be reviewed at the end of three months, according to prosecutors.

Furlong, who has been out on bail since June 19, violated an earlier restraining order when he returned to his girlfriend's West Hollywood home on May 21 and assaulted her, according to Deputy District Attorney Linda Loftfield.

Misdemeanor battery charges stemming from earlier alleged incidents on Nov. 21 and Jan. 13 were among those dismissed today.
