Suspect Sought in West Hollywood, West Covina Bank Robberies
Law enforcement in Los Angeles County is seeking whereabouts of a bank robber believed to be responsible for recent bank robberies where a device resembling an improvised explosive device was left behind.
The search was on today for a bank robber who threatens to have a bomb while demanding money from tellers in West Hollywood and West Covina.
The so-called "explosives threat" bandit robbed Bank of America branches at , near San Vicente Boulevard, in West Hollywood Monday, and at 2901 Eastland Center Drive in West Covina on Nov. 18, said Laura Eimiller of the FBI.
During each robbery, the suspect left behind a device made up of electronic components and various wiring.

"In both robberies, the suspect made an oral demand and also handed a written note to the teller," Eimiller said. "The notes indicated the suspect had a friend outside the bank monitoring a police frequency and that he would make a call to advise the friend to 'press a button.'"
Eimiller said one note said once the friend was contacted, the "establishment will not exist."

During the West Covina robbery, the suspect stated "I have a bomb," Eimiller said. The man demanded as much as $20,000 in cash.
Sheriff's bomb squad officials responded to the locations after each robbery to find the devices were safe.
The suspect is white, between 35 and 45 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighs 175 to 190 pounds.
