Updated: Barricaded Shooting Suspect Not Found in Home

Police believe an assault with a deadly weapon occurred in the vicinity of Lincoln and Mariposa and their suspect barricaded himself for hours in his home Tuesday night.

Updated Monday 7:55 a.m: After gaining entry to the home, police found the suspect was not inside, according to City News Service.

Police used a remote-controlled, camera-equipped robot to check out the interior of the home.

Updated 10:45 p.m: As of 10:45 p.m. the standoff was still ongoing. Patch will update this story Wednesday morning.

Updated 9:10 p.m: As of 9 p.m. officers are still trying to get the suspect out of the home, according to a message sent out by the Sheriff's Department.

The department is urging anyone in the affected area to stay inside their homes.

The department has still not found a gunshot victim and it is possible nobody was hit, according to the release.

Updated 7:40 p.m: A SWAT team is en route to assist in entering the home the suspect may be located in, according to Sgt. Gibson.  However, officers on scene are not certain that the suspect is in the house.

Officers will attempt entry of the home once the SWAT team shows up, he added.

Original: The Sheriff's Department is seeking a shooting suspect considered armed and dangerous in the vicinity of Lincoln Avenue and Mariposa Street, according to Sgt. Scott Gibson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Officers have reports of an assault with a deadly weapon that happened recently in the area, though they have not been able to locate the victim, Gibson said. They believe the victim may have transported him or herself to the hospital.

"The victim apparently got in the car and went to the hospital on his own," Gibson said. "At this time we do not have the victim."

Sheriff's investigators have not yet communicated with the suspect but plan to reach out to him shortly, Gibson said.

"We're going to order him out soon and see if he comes out," Gibson said just after 6 p.m.

A police helicopter has been hovering over the scene. Gibson said that sheriffs have not called in a SWAT team but may do so at some point if the suspect does not cooperate.

"We're going to attempt to do what we can on our own first," he said.

The department set up a containment area around a location where they believe the suspect is located. Devirian Place, Mariposa Avenue and Mendocino Avenue between Lincoln Avenue and Casitas Avenue. As of 5:05 p.m. they had not yet located him but believe they may know his location.

Sheriff's Capt. John Benedict wrote on Twitter at 5:24 p.m. that witnesses saw a suspect fire shots at a "random vehicle."

A woman who only identified herself as Meena told Patch she called the sheriff's department after she heard gunshots near the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and saw a teenager with blond hair and a white shirt take off running.

"It sounded like a pop gun," she said. "Just three shots, pop, pop, pop."

She saw the teenager stop and talk to two people and then continue to flee, she said. She did not see anyone who appeared to have gotten shot.

Patch will update this story with more information when it becomes available

Hey people in the gang video link, and anyone going down the tough road. In ten years you can be in jail, dead, or a millionaire. Yeah millionaire... or better. If you are the one person who is at that moment you can hear this, ...then hear this. It actually happens. I did it. Start an action, something thats needs to be done before you go to bed, and just do it. Then write down 2 bigger things that you WILL do tomorrow. Sounds lame at first I know. But you have started the foward motion in your brain that you build on. Go buy all the positive thinking books and CD's you can and read, and listen all day long. Your brain actually has "placidity". The neurons change the way the connections are wired in your brain. This is the magic part of the whole thing. The beginning, the first 5 minutes is the only impossible thing for most. It just gets easier the longer it goes. After a while the natural drugs your brain makes is better than any man made drug can be. The life that dreams are made of is there like fruit on a tree. Go get it. I did it from nothing. My favorites are Joseph Murphy's ....The power of your subconcious mind Tony Robbins is the most famous and has many different things available. If you start here, you will then know where to go after that. The only hard part is the first step. Make just one step now, no matter how small...and know that you just stepped toward that life. Are you tough. Are you tough enough to make your life ? Or is life making you?

I praise the deputies who used all available resources to track this gunman gangbanger down. To all da people who complain about money used for helicopter, etc., are you getting some sort of bill in the mail from the sheriff's that the rest of us aren't. For the best of my knowledge this service comes from the tax money we already pay!!! Let us know if you receive an extra bill for what happened that night.

Not to mention it's just money that's already in circulation. They receive it, they circulate it; someone else receives it ~ and circulates it and on and on. Money is energy. It's meant to be circulated and constantly in the current and flow.

Next time the Sheriff should just stay at the station and let the gangbangers take over the neighborhood. Then let's see what kind of complaints people have. Maybe some these smart people on this blog will ask the Sheriff for a refund on their taxes for the poor service.
