Police Blotter: Stolen Cars, Strollers and a Wheelchair

An unusual array of items were taken this week in West Hollywood.

Pilferers of all sorts were out and about in West Hollywood in July. They didn't steal candy from a baby, but someone did walk off with two strollers. A clothing rack and steamer, DVDs, bottles of alcohol, a wheelchair and a gaming console were among other items taken. Here is a list of incidents that occurred the last week of July as compiled by the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station.

Carriage ride
Someone stole two baby strollers from an unsecured garage at a condominium complex on the 1000 block of Curson Avenue on July 20 at about 12:30 p.m. The loss is estimated at about $500.

Playing for keeps
A thief took a gaming console valued at about $300 from a business located on the 9200 block of Sunset Boulevard on July 21 at about 4:40 a.m.

Wheelchair whisked away
A locked motorized wheelchair was stolen near a bus stop on the 7100 block of Santa Monica Boulevard on July 21 at about 11:30 a.m. The wheelchair is valued at about $4,500. 

Carted away
While shopping at a market on the 7300 block of Santa Monica Boulevard on July 23 at about 4 p.m., a woman placed her wallet in her shopping cart and soon discovered someone had stolen the $80 wallet and the identification, credit cards, cash and miscellaneous items inside it.

Morning mayhem
Two suspects described as male Hispanics forcibly robbed a man at 4:37 a.m. on July 24. The thieves took the victim's watch, cell phone, wallet, cash and other miscellaneous items. The total loss was estimated at about $32,490.

Bar hopped
After leaving her purse unattended in the bar area of a nightclub on the 9200 block of Sunset Boulevard on July 25 at about 2 a.m., a woman later discovered someone had stolen the $60 handbag containing about $200 in miscellaneous items.

Liquid assets
A burglar broke into a restaurant located on the 8200 block of Sunset Boulevard at about 10 a.m. July 25 and stole six bottles of liquor and two cartons of cigarettes. The loss is estimated at about $300. 

Making off with movies
A suspect described as a male Caucasian entered a retail business on the 7100 block of Santa Monica Boulevard on July 26 and stole 48 DVDs and then fled on foot. The total loss is estimated at about $830. 

Purse snatched
A hotel guest had her purse stolen on the 1000 block of San Vicente Boulevard on July 28. The purse was hung on the back of a chair while she was dining in the restaurant. The purse contained two cellular phones, cameras, cash and a wallet with other miscellaneous items. The total loss is estimated at about $1,390.

Liquor run
A suspect described as a male African American entered a retail business on the 8400 block of Santa Monica on July 28 at about 9:15 a.m. and stole several bottles of alcohol. The man left the store and fled in a vehicle.  

Technical thieves
Two laptops and the computer bag containing them were stolen from the parking entrance of a hotel on the 1200 block of Alta Loma Road on July 29 at 2:10 a.m. The total loss is estimated at about $2,150.

Getting steamed
A woman reported that her steamer and clothing rack had been stolen from her parking space July 29 at 11 a.m. The loss was estimated at about $3,200. 

Fashionable crime
A suspect described as a female Hispanic entered a store on the 8800 block of Sunset Boulevard on July 29 at 12:30 p.m. and stole a $300 cardigan sweater. The thief exited the store and fled in a vehicle. 

Deputies' Log:

  • Six suspects were arrested on suspicion of burglary or theft after being observed shoplifting at a local retail business.
  • Following four separate traffic collisions, four drivers were arrested on the suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
  • Five vehicles were burglarized by unknown suspects. Total estimated cost of damage and articles taken was $3,919.
  • Three vehicles were stolen by unknown thieves.
  • Two reported stolen vehicles were recovered, and the owners were notified.
  •  Seven vehicles were impounded for 30 days because they were being driven by an unlicensed driver or a person with a suspended or revoked license.
