Entertainer Ray J was booked and today posted bail for suspicion of resisting arrest, vandalism and battery on a police officer following a confrontation at a Beverly Hills hotel Friday night.

The entertainer, whose real name is William Ray Norwood, posted a $20,000 bail and was released today. His court date has been set on July 25 at LAX court, according to a department statement.

Norwood was arrested at 7:30 p.m. Friday after an incident at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, said Beverly Hills police Lt. Lincoln Hoshino.

Hoshino said police had originally been called to the hotel about a sexual battery, with Norwood alleged to have grabbed the buttocks of a female patron of the bar.

After the contact was established to be accidental, Norwood agreed to a suggestion by officers that he leave the bar,  Hoshino said.

Norwood subsequently became belligerent with staff in the valet area of the hotel, he said. They made a private citizens arrest for trespassing when Norwood refused to leave..

Norwood was taken into police custody and placed in the back of a patrol car, Hishino said. Still combative, Norwood kicked out the side window of the patrol car.

As officers attempted to restrain his feet, Norwood spat in one of their faces, Hishino said.

Norwood was subsequently booked on charges including battery on a police officer and trespassing, he said.

His arrest was first reported by the celebrity news website, TMZ.
