PHOTOS: Memorial to Slain Bus Driver

The memorial to slain MTA bus driver Alan Thomas remains of the sidewalk adjacent to the spot where he was fatally shot on May 20. The parking space beside that spot is blocked off with traffic cones so no one parks there and disturbs the memorial.

The parking space on Santa Monica Boulevard where the Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus driver was fatally shot continues to be blocked off by traffic cones to accommodate a memorial to him on the sidewalk.

Candles, flowers, balloons and even a teddy bear have been placed on the sidewalk for Alan Thomas, 51. Some people are still seen visibly crying as pause at the memorial. A .

Thomas was shot aboard the #105 bus he was driving on May 20 at 9:09 a.m. at Santa Monica Boulevard at West Knoll Drive (near the Koo Koo Roo). His alleged shooter was the sole passenger on the bus at the time.

Anthony Craig Chambers, 41, of Los Angeles was arrested at the scene and booked on suspicion of murder at the sheriff's West Hollywood station. He is being held at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Twin Towers facility in lieu of $1 million bail.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa began Thursday’s Metropolitan Transit Authority meeting with a moment of silence for Thomas, calling the shooting a senseless crime.

“I’d like to extend my sincere thoughts and prayers to his family and the MTA employees during this very difficult time,” Villaraigosa said. “Mr. Thomas will be sorely missed and he touched the lives of many.”
