Parts of Downtown L.A. Locked Down After Possible Dorner Sighting Friday

The sighting also prompts the return of the Los Angeles Police Department tactical alert lifted briefly early Friday.

Sheriffs Department officials locked down the Twin Towers jail in downtown Los Angeles Friday after an unconfirmed report that someone generally matching the description of Christopher Jordan Dorner was seen nearby.

Adjacent streets were also blocked off, but there was no sign of the suspect.

Some media outlets reported that Dorner's ex-wife works at the Twin Towers jail, although this was not confirmed.

The sighting also put the Los Angeles Police Department back on tactical alert just after 10:30 a.m.

The alert began early Thursday after Dorner shot and killed a Riverside police officer and injured another, but it was lifted Friday morning at 7:30 a.m.

LAPD spokesperson Richard French said a tactical alert requires any officer in a division to get clearance before leaving, usually from a captain or bureau chief.

That has kept officers working almost continuous shifts.

The sighting came as attention in the manhunt for Dorner was shifting from Big Bear to Las Vegas and Las Palmas, where he lived for a time.

The fired Los Angeles Police Department officer is accused in the revenge killings of a college basketball coach and her fiance and the ambush slaying of a Riverside police officer.

Dorner's burned-out pick up was found Thurday afternoon near a Big Bear Mountain.

About 400 homes in the area were searched without any sign of forced entry. According to reports, there was also no reports of stolen vehicles in the area.

San Bernardino County Sheriffs officials said that they will continue the manhunt, despite the snow and cold, until it is confirmed he had left the area or he is caught.
