Music Festival Rocks Without Incident

There are no arrests and only two minor paramedic calls on Saturday, the final day of the event.

Attendance for the Sunset Strip Street Festival peaked Saturday at 15,000 people and managed to attract about 30,000 music fans during the three-day festival, according to event organizers. Last year, the festival drew 10,000 during the street festival and about 25,000 for the overall three days.

Sheriff's deputies said the crowd was well-behaved and no arrests were made Saturday. There were two "slip and stumble" injuries managed by paramedics on standby.

Traffic was backed up as motorists approached the western boundary at Doheny Drive and the eastern boundary at Clark Street. Attendees, bands, and crew walked from distant parking spaces along the sidewalk, which was dotted with oversized Gibson Guitar statues.

West Hollywood Sheriff's deputies were out managing the crowd and traffic flow, supported by a private security firm checking passes on arrival. Personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department were on standby.

The Thursday and Friday lineups included shows in indoor venues at the House of Blues, Key Club, Cat Club, Whisky a Go-Go, The Roxy and the Viper Room.

Saturday's show was on an outdoor stage with marquee names such as Kid Cudi, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, Common and the Smashing Pumpkins as well as honoree Slash.

Once the entire event was complete, the stages were broken down in time for deputies to reopen Sunset Boulevard by 10 p.m. Saturday evening.

Editorial Note: On Sunday, Sheriff's deputies reported the Sunset Strip Street Festival attendance at 7,000 people.
