Man Shot in Plummer Park

A 26-year-old man is shot in Plummer Park at approximately 11:35 p.m. on Sunday. Sheriff's deputies are searching for the gunman.

A search is under way for a gunman who opened fire on three people in Plummer Park, wounding a man, authorities said.

Deputies on patrol heard shots on the Fuller Avenue side of the park at 11:35 p.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Dave Valentine of the Los Angeles County sheriff's West Hollywood Station.

The people who had been shot at ran toward the deputies, Valentine said, adding that a 26-year-old man was wounded by a bullet that entered his buttocks and lodged itself in his abdomen.

The victim, who told deputies he didn't know his attacker, was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for surgery and is expected to survive, Valentine said.

we need a sheriff sub-station on the east side urgently.

I could not agree more and that nasty bit of land on SM and Vista is a perfect spot. It appears that Protecting Plummer Park extends to bad acts by more than many of us imagined.

As I understand it, the park is "closed" at that hour...

If you mean closed, as in gates locked, that is incorrect. There are no gates to lock. I have a feeling many people walk through the park at night to get to their homes or their parked cars. It's a great shortcut coming and going from many directions. It should be well lit and afford less opportunity for perpetrators to lie in wait. Bringing back a Sheriff sub station would be good for Plummer Park and good for the eastside.

I agree. I am also concerned about the City choosing to hire private security rather than increase Public Safety spending on the Sheriff's Department to hire more regular patrol officers. Very very Republican/Cheney to switch to this private contracting for public safety and security.

The park has had several serious incidents recently. Most at under cover of night. The proposed underground parking structure (among at least 41 million other reasons why the planned garage is never built) will be a haven for potential criminal activity and place for homeless seeking shelter - during the daytime with full light in the park above.

Why is anyone walking in a public park at 11:35 PM? Maybe there is more to the story.
