Weho Detectives Investigate Registered Sex Offender, 'Super 8' Casting Assistant
Registered sex offender Jason James Murphy has been working in movie casting for much of the past decade under a different name.
West Hollywood Sheriff's detectives are currently conducting an investigation into the activities of Jason James Murphy, a registered sex offender and Weho resident who has been working under another name.
The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday that Murphy, 35, who has spent nearly a decade casting actors, including children, in films (Super 8, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, The School of Rock), served five years in prison for the 1996 kidnapping and molesting of an 8-year-old boy in suburban Seattle.
Murphy underwent sex-offender counseling, LA Times reported, then moved to California in 2005, where he was registered as a sex offender, making his full name and photo known. In his professional career, however, Murphy continues to go by Jason James.
