Police Blotter: Andaz Room Theft, BMX Burglary and 'Old Glory' Lifted

The second week of April sees cell phones snatched and an American flag stolen from sheriff's station grounds.

This week's Police Blotter reminds us to keep expensive belongings out of sight when unattended. A $500 Givenchy black leather handbag, allegedly left in plain view on the front seat of a 2010 Range Rover, was stolen on Monday. 

Other larceny is less predictable, such as a donated American flag falling off the wall of the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station Tuesday and onto the ground, only to be snatched up by a passing thief.

Flag Down

Someone stole an American flag worth $501 from the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station between April 7 and 12. The flag, which had been donated to the station, was bolted to the wall that faces west toward San Vicente Avenue. Several bolts were still in place with torn pieces of the flag. Deputies believe the suspect may have grabbed the flag from the ground and fled.

Brand Burglary

Someone broke into a 2010 Range Rover parked on Doheny Drive north of Elevado Avenue on April 11. The victim left her vehicle between 10:30 and 10:40 a.m., and returned to find her front passenger side window smashed, a Givenchy purse, Louis Vuitton wallet, and Chloe make-up bag missing. The theft caused a total of $1,820 in damage and stolen items.

Joy Ride

Between April 10 and 11, someone cut a silver padlock and stole an Iron Horse BMX bike worth $240 from a front patio on the 7500 block of Fountain Avenue. The victim did not know the bike's serial number and did not have a picture of the bike, according to the report. 

Room Service?

Between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., a cell phone was stolen from a hotel room at the . A husband and wife left their room, with the cell phone on the nightstand beside the bed, to have breakfast along the Sunset Strip. Upon returning, they could not find their phone. Only housekeeping had a key to the room. Andaz security was notified at 1 p.m. and searched laundry and lost and found, but could not find the missing phone.
