Jani Lane, former lead singer of the 1980s hair band Warrant, was found dead Thursday afternoon at a Comfort Inn in the 20100 block of Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills.
Lane, born John Oswald, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 5:30 p.m. by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. The cause of death was not immediately determined and the case is under investigation, the LA Times reported.
The 47-year-old rocker was a staple on the Sunset Strip during the peak of pop metal. He partied with the best of them and received a DUI in 2009, with another in 2010, reported LA Weekly.
He left the band best known for the 1990 album Cherry Pie in 2004, returned in 2008, and quit again several months later. TMZ reported that Warrant plans to pay tribute to its fallen former front man at Friday's show in North Dakota.
